This article is incomplete. Join 3SME to discuss.

If you can't stand (or afford) to shell out $2-3,000 for a good shop paint job on your car, there may be an alternative. Many individuals have reported success using a roller method to paint their vehicle with thinned Rust-Oleum.

This article will show you how to paint your car for less than $100 and some hard work. I will be recording every step of the restoration and painting process on my own vehicle, and you can follow along with pictures, shopping lists, and time estimates. Never painted a car before? Neither have I!

Before we get started, you can read more here and here for some additional background on this painting process.

Preparation

Your body may require some restoration and repair before you consider painting it. If your current paint job has rust spots, scratches, chips, or other minor damage make sure you take care of this before trying to paint. Painting over rust, cracks, chips, etc. will ruin the longevity and appearance of your hard work. Follow the steps in Restoration On The Cheap to restore and damage or rust, then come back to this article.
